A great article in Windows Secrets, Free software finds your security flaws by Scott Dunn, lists a number of free tools online that will analyze your system and produce a detailed report of your security strengths and weaknesses. They include our favorite, Belarc Advisor, and also the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer. Read the article, and make one of these programs part of your defense against malware.
