Here's an Intro to rocket science, contributed by John Sleeman. You can read it at asuwlink.uwyo.edu/~jimkirk/guidance.html, "Missile Guidance for Dummies", which has the audio transcribed from an Air Force training video on the topic of missile guidance. The actual sound track is here, so turn on your sound and click the link. It's well worth hearing! (this is what Bob Mitchell played at his Video Editing presentation 5 December) A similar text was published at www.afmissileers.org/AFMissileers/pdf/NL1997/Dec97.pdf (page 5) where it was attributed to the Ground Launched Cruise Missile (GLCM).
Be warned - this site is not for easily offended people. But if your sense of humor runs to the scatological, and your expressions tend to include words of an "excrementory" nature, you may be interested in the "genealogy" of your expressions (best with a fast connection, and be sure to turn on your sound): home.pacbell.net/diana_do/knowjack.htm
Want to spend 30 minutes with some Web weirdness (works best in later IE versions)? Try this flashback to the 70s--it's a bit mind-bending, but fun. My favorite? First row, last button on the right. (With thanks to K. Zachary Abbott.) Fair warning: With so many buttons to try, you may run into a few words you've seen before but may not like. Go psychedelic right here: www.virtualom.com/index3.htm. From "Steve Bass's Home Office" column at PCWorld.com
Read it sideways. The first smiley was posted to usenet on September 19, 1982. Almost twenty years later, the original posting is uncovered on an old tape backup (after a search that smiley-inventor Scott Fahlman has dubbed the ""Digital Coelacanth Project"). Of note: Mr. Fahlman thinks that AOL's and MSN's penchant for replacing the smiley-string with little pictures "destroys the whimsical element of the original."

Download the file at the WORKOUT.EXE program link at the bottom of this linked page, Start or double-click the executable file workout.exe, then try hitting your screen with the hammer or cutting it into pieces using the chainsaw or shooting at it with the machine-gun or burning holes using the phaser or putting silly stamps on it or hammering the termites. Hint: start the program with a picture of someone or something you hate (Bill Gates, Osama bin Laden, the ex-, etc.) showing(this program will be on the next Club CD, and will probably be demonstrated at a General Meeting).

Takes a while to download via dialup, but it's worth it (turn on your sound, too). Found on Metafilter -- Yes, no, yes, no...., a driver's tutorial. OK, it isn't Friday anymore, but we all have to head back into rush hour tomorrow. -- shorty

Meanwhile, check out the left-hand column -- you can change the background color. Gee, maybe we could do that.

Enjoy yourself with SokoMind, a free game inspired by Japanese Sokoban logic puzzles. It's one of the best ways to flush a few hours down the drain. (BTW, this site's in Germany, so it may load slowly).
Shorty suggests you try Google in some other languages -- Bork, Elmer Fudd, Hacker, Igpay Atinlay, Other "Easter Eggs". And while you're at Google, find out exactly how Google manages to find the right results for every query as quickly as it does.
From "Steve Bass's Home Office" column at PCWorld.com www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,86524,00.asp, "[Try] this doggie construction game www.lebonze.co.uk/v2/doggygame.htm . And no, those things aren't tails or ears. Act like an engineer and you'll catch on. (Hint: If you get the right piece in the right place, you'll get a confirming bark.)"
Shorty found out what really goes on when you call a tech support help line at www.savageresearch.com/humor/techsupport.html. It's audio, so make sure your speakers are on.
Here's a site that seems worthy of a SPAUG link -- http://www.coffeebreakarcade.com/index.html . I checked out the Millionaire and it was more intense for me than yelling at the tv.
also, try Puzzles, games, illusions, etc.

Dig this: You haven't had your weekly time waster yet, right? Move your cursor near the wily rabbit - he keeps an eye on it, and if you get close enough, it tries to nab the cursor. The bunny's fast, but if it gets your cursor you can shake it loose. Visit the rabbit. Stan Hutchings May 02

VIRTUAL REALITY, Renaissance-Style: Online exhibition. Devices of Wonder, an exhibition at Los Angeles's Getty Museum, drew rave reviews during its recent run. It put a new spin on "multimedia" and "virtual reality"--showing that interest in sense-enhancing and image-making technology dates back to the Renaissance. The exhibition has closed, but its Web-based cabinet of curiosities remains. (the Flash graphics call for a fast connection speed)
